Maika'i

I love very few things more than I love hawaiin rolls, my shows, andres, and the sun. And one of those things is getting to call BYU. The students answer the phones. And I know they have a list of things to say and numbers to connect to, but oh how they very rarely are successful at helping me when I call them.

*ring ring*
BYU girl: "How may I help you?"
ME: "Hi, I'm trying to get ahold of Asai Gilman. Is he in his office?"
BYU girl: "No, he isn't. But maybe I can answer your questions?"
ME: "Well, there were a few problems with my application... it's pretty complicated. But Mr. Gilman knows my situation."
BYU girl: "That's ok, I'm sure I can help."
ME: "...ok, well (then I explain the problem)"
BYU girl: "..... well I can't help you because I don't know anything about your application."
ME: "I know, that's why I'm looking for Mr. Gilman. What time will he be in?"
BYU girl: "i'm not sure what his schedule is. but just tell me what you need again, i'll try to look it up."
ME: "Well i really just have a question for Mr. Gilman. Which most likely only he can answer."
BYU girl: "Well what is it? I might know."
ME: "...Well mainly to see if he's put in my application status, or began re-evaluating my application."
BYU girl: "I don't have authorization to look that up."
ME: "I know, so is Mr. Gilman available on his cell phone?"
BYU girl: "would you like to leave him a message?"
ME: "Oh yea, that'd be great!" (thinking I'd be connected to his voicemail...)
BYU girl: "Ok, what would you like it to say?"
ME: "Actually, i'll just call back later. Thanks so much!"

Maybe it's not funny to you, but boy it makes me laugh! She really did try to help! I so hope this is never my job. Here's another good one. Only this one was in person, at BYU Hawaii campus.

ME: "Hi, i'm looking for Mr. Gilman's office?"
BYU boy: "...(blank stare) who?"
ME: "Mr. Asai Gilman, he's on the board of admissions."
BYU boy: "I'm sorry, you must have the wrong building."
ME: (looking back at the sign on the door that read "admissions office") "You sure? I'm positive his office is in here somewhere... Asai Gilman, board of admissions."
BYU boy: "...OH! Gilman, yeah. His office is right there. Let me call in to let him know you're here."

The boy was sitting DIRECTLY in front of Gilman's office. And was most likely his assistant. Maybe he was new.. and didn't know who he was working for yet?

All is fine because as of a few weeks ago, I'm going to BYU HAWAII!!!!

Did I already tell you guys that? Well, I am! I start for First Term, which is around July 22nd. And I'm super stoked! Couldn't be happier about it! Here's a little of what I have to look forward to!

Studying in la biblioteca, just like Mike and Andres!

Being with my beautiful cousin Becky and her boyfriend.

Playing on the beach!

Eating at Hukilau Cafe. Yumm rice.

Living close to the temple!

Going to the DOLE plantation.

My 2 forms of transportation:
Exhibit A) El bus

Exhibit B) Hitch hiking

AND the big kicker! Seeing Sunset Beach at sunset when it's pretty!

Unlike how it was when I saw it. Overcast. And sad.

Maika'i!
I am good! Life is good!
