scoping it out

Am I the only one that scopes out the situation when going to the Library?  There's lots of scoping to be done. Walk up to the Library; check out the benches and tables outside for friends to stop and talk story for awhile. Open the front doors; check out the other people getting there at the same time as you... just because. Walk in; look left, look forward, look right; check out who's working today, possibly go and brighten their day with a joke or two. Chose your direction; scoping throughout this whole process to determine who else is in that area, possible computer-buddies or study-buddies. Find your spot, sit, and scope; scope left, scope forward, scope right, take a drink from your water bottle while you casually scope behind you with a quick swivel of the chair. This last step is crucial. What if you missed someone on your walking-scope of the area? Who's sitting around you? What are they doing? Any possible noise-makers? Loud-breathers? Crinkly chip-bag-openers? Inappropriate-sounding laughers? Stinky feets with no shoes? Text-a-holics accompanied with a perpetual "bzzz" of their phone on the desk, vibrating down the whole line of desks? Scope all around and if necessary, re-locate! This of course involves another series of scoping, both whilst walking to the next spot and then again after sitting. But in the end, it's well worth your time. Then, you finally get set up and begin your work, fully aware of your surroundings, and satisfied with your choice of location. Why yes, there IS a person with my favorite gummy worms a few seats down. Maybe I can befriend her. And sometimes you score big when attractive people come and sit directly in front of you; little bonus. Like the rare toy in your cereal box. Doesn't really do you any good... but it's super exciting when you first see it!

I guess I'll get to work, now. Happy Monday, friends!!
Wish you were here!
(I didn't spot any study-buddies. All in my lonesome)
