Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches

First. Click play. This is a good song.

Today I was in my 3 hour long english class.
We were discussing the book Kite Runner, which is quite good.
Sad, but good.
It is about the life of an Afghani boy named Amir.

There are about 13 people in the class.
3 White. 1 Black. 1 from Kiribati. 1 Hawaiian. A handful from Hong Kong and Japan.
We made a big circle with our desks and numbered off 1 and 2.
1's moved around the room, and 2's stayed in their seats
This way we could talk one-on-one with lots of people in the class.
We discussed the book
and all of its' many lessons and symbols.

For each person I talked to, the book held different meaning.
Some thought Amir's move to America as a change for the better
Some saw it as a down-grade.
A few commented on Amir's selfishness and cowardice
Others pointed out his strength and leadership.
We all read the same book, in the same language
But to each person there was a completely different message.
The book raised so many questions
and they were all very complex.

Eventually we were done discussing the book
it was time for a 1o minute break.
Today it was my turn to bring in the snack.

I brought Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches.

We each made our own
and we I sat back down in our big circle.
I watched everyone eating their sandwiches.
"It smells soo good!" the Chinese girl next to me said.
"I love PPJ" said the Hawaiian boy across from me.
I liked that everyone liked the sandwiches.
I liked that life was so simple for a moment.
I liked that we sat there and finished eating in a peaceful silence.
I liked it a lot.

And I remembered how luck I am.
I am really lucky!
Lucky to be here in Hawaii
Lucky to be a student at BYUH
So lucky to be LDS
Lucky to be learning.

It's easy to forget just how lucky we all are.
Sometimes it's hard to see the good
but it's always there.
You just have to keep your eyes open.
Sometimes you'll forget
and you don't even notice you've forgotten
until one day you see it again.

Today I found it
in a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich.

Life is good!

Good post. I enjoyed that book also, But made the mistake of watching the movie and felt like life was NOT worth living after wards because of how corrupt this world could be..It just really depressed me a ton as you can see. But At least it had a good ending :)
