So last Friday night, April 29th, I was laying in bed and I was outrageously discontent. I had started three different movies that I only watched the first 10 minutes of before I got bored. A combination of millions of things whizzed through my mind. I couldn't settle my thoughts and I couldn't get comfortable. I was indeed outrageously discontent.
It was then that I realized I need a vacation. I have been working non-stop since December without a break. My weekends hardly exist anymore and I haven't taken in a nap in... oh boy, I don't know how long! Even my Sunday's have turned into days full of meetings and emails. The thing is, I'm completely okay with this. I love being busy! I'd rather be busy than bored. I chose to sign up for so many things and I love being a part of so many organizations. But it had been far too long since I had truly gotten a break.
SO I WENT ON VACATION!
I realized how crazy I was being when I bumped into Erin in the hallway of our dorm at 7:30 PM and told her to pack a bag and be in my room at 7:52. And obviously I was crazy when I was writing down the numbers of 5 hotels. And it is no lie that I had completely lost my mind as Erin drove towards downtown while I called the hotels and asked weird questions like "What's the highest floor available?". Clearly I was going bonkers when I booked the room and used the phrase "M... as in man..." THREE times. And I don't know what I was thinking when Erin kept asking "How much is this gonna cost you?" to which I only replied "I dunno!". But sometimes, being crazy gets the job done! And I wanted a freaking vacation! So at 9:30 PM on Friday night we arrived at our destination...
LOCATION: HILTON HAWAIIAN VILLAGE, WAIKIKI HI
WHO: ERIN & EMILY

The view from our 29th floor room was breathtaking!

Breakfast of Champions! --------------- Waiting for Erin to shower.

It's a wonder I'm not married yet. Who doesn't want to eat a romantic breakfast on a hotel balcony in front of a breath-taking view with THIS Hunka-hunka lovin'???
Pool-side! Writing letters whilst our bodies maintain the perfect temperature. Something I haven't done since I lived in Arizona.

Erin in the Village

After a late check-out at 1:00 PM we ended the vacation alongside the Ala Wai Canal in Waikiki.
So this is where the story ends. While it was the most $expensive$ solution to boredom I have ever come upon, it was most definitely worth every penny. Life is good, and it deserves all the focus and enjoyment we can get out of it! I feel refreshed and ready to take on whatever comes next in life.
I learned an important lesson on remembering to take some time for yourself. When I was younger and my family would go on vacations it was just like another week of fun, except we were in a new place with different things to do. I have never truly understood or appreciated vacation for what it really is.
A time to breath slowly, to make up for all the moments you breath too fast.
A time to relax, to make up for the times you never stop moving.
A time to forget everything, so that when you get back you can organize your thoughts and hit the ground running.
And that's exactly what I'm ready to do! Here we go, the next challenge. I'm ready whenever you are. Game face? CHECK.
Life is good!
