College. RAs. Dorms. Yuck.
However, I have learned to find humor in all of it. One of the rules is that we can't leave personal items in the hallway.
Remember this photo?
It should be an easy enough rule to follow. But for some reason or another, I break it. All the time. Soaking wet shoes from a hike... let them dry in the hallway. Soaking wet blanket from watching a movie on the grass when it started pouring rain...hang it in the bathroom. Dirty dishes that you don't have time to clean, but don't want to get an ant infestation on your desk.... leave it in the hallway. See? It happens all the time! And everytime I feel justified. With what we're paying to stay here, I feel that our unit hallway should be ours to do with whatever we please! But every time I leave something out for a day, or even a few hours. It gets taken away.
I found the benefits of this consequence.
See. A few months ago I left ALL of my dishes in the kitchen to soak. I went back a few hours later and the kitchen was locked. The next day I went back and my dishes were gone. I was furiated! So I went to the RAs office to see if my dishes were there in the Lost and Found. And sure enough, there was a bag full of my things... and they were all clean. An RA had found them, and cleaned them, and then put them in the Lost and Found. Brilliant!
I didn't do it on purpose... I promise. Pinky Swear. But it did happen again. I have come to look at it like a hotel service. You know, how you leave your shoes in the hallway and the next morning they have been shined? Here at the Hale 5 Ritz-Carlton, they offer a dish-cleaning service! You leave your dish in the hallway, and the next morning you can pick it up at the front desk, packaged and cleaned for your convenience! Let me demonstrate:
Step 1
(This is not an authentic before photo. This is a different plate. This photo was staged.)
Step 2
Vuala!
Life is good!
